My thinkpad has a gobi 2000 WWAN card that I use for canadian mobile broadband.

Im going on holiday with the family for a weekend, so is it possible to buy local prepaid mobile broadband services in the states?

Im looking at AT&T with their dataconnect service ($15 per day is not bad considering the hotel will charge me as much). The card comes with an AT&T simcard too so I dont need to buy one. I'm wondering, do they accept canadian credit cards so I can setup an account?

Also, Im wondering if by activating with AT&T, do I lose function for canadian carriers? (since carriers need to activate with the IMEI number which only one service provider should be using at a time?). So do I need to ask at&t to cancel my IMEI afterwards or what?

Anyone have experience? Im open to other suggestions too for canadian travellers in getting short term pre-paid mobile broadband service in the states.

Im also wondering, what is the difference between verizon and at&t? How come verizon is able to activate without a SIM card? how does that work? With at&T I need to plug in a AT&T sim card into the gobi card first to initialize with the lenovo included mobile broadband software
