Mini PCI Bluetooth

Hello,

I've been looking for a solution to my Acer Aspire 9300 Bluetooth dilemma. Turns out Acer puts a Bluetooth button on many units but does not provide the module nor is it an easy retrofit. I have found bluetooth modules available for various acers but I have no idea which connector works with this laptop.

The button and the LED to show bluetooth connectivity are present and clicking on the button creates the message "No Bluetooth Device" on the screen. Using a USB dongle does work of course but for the desire not to have a dongle (which will grow feet with the horde around here) I'd like to have this be internal.

It was suggested this might be a better forum to ask this wireless question in. So with that, Does anyone know of:

1. The correct bluetooth module for this card & the number of pins I'd need to connect this?

2. A mini PCI Bluetooth card that is known to work well?

How to contact the source for any of the suggestions you might offer

As the Acer comes with Vista, the drivers are native.

You might get a better response in the Acer forum. Perhaps a mod will move it there for you.

 

Thanks for the suggestion, I've tried there but no cigar. Since this relates to a wireless question using the mini pci slot which many laptops from various manufactures make available and wanting to use bluetooth for it which is wireless, it seems like the Wireless forum is a good forum to ask in.

Seems like the answer for this would be easy to find, more laptops do not have bluetooth and this would be an easy remedy sans dongle.

Always something to make life interesting...

 

I know MSI made a PCI card that had B/G wireless and bluetooth. Did your search for the BT adapter tell you it was a separate daughter card or was it part of the wireless?

The MSI is the only one I have found in my searching that appears to be available. I did find two others but neither are in production. I read several comments about how the range on the MCI was not up to par. Whether this is indeed true or not I can't tell as none of the comments were done by a reviewer. It's possible the person did not complete the installation.

I don't want to pay upwards of $50 to find out it indeed is not going to be a help to me.

I did find some Bluetooth modules which attach to plugs attached to the motherboard; not PCI but 4 connector and 8 connector plugs depending on the model. None of them were known to work with the Acer Aspire 9300 series although they were known to work with many other Acer laptop models.

They would probably work but I have no idea where to place them on this motherboard and Acer is not talking...

Still looking for ideas.
