I just got my new HP Envy Spectre today, and I'm having some difficulties connecting to the internet wirelessly. My main router, a Netgear WNR3500L, works just fine with two desktops that are also in the house (each about 20-30 feet away; also HP computers). However, although I can connect to the router using the new laptop, there seems to be an issue between the router and modem. I've already reset the modem, without any success, and the Netgear continues to work with the two desktop computers and my old laptop (also an HP).
To test whether this was the laptop's issue, I brought out a Medialink MWN-WAPR150N router that I bought a while ago. I had configured it a while ago, but it had problems with my desktop computers so I haven't been using it. Interestingly, when I tried to access it with my laptop, it asked me for the 8-digit PIN on the router (which I don't remember being asked for before) and worked great, noticeably faster than the Netgear, so I guess it's not a computer-side issue.
The problem is that my two desktops can't establish a connection to the Medialink router - both of them give the same message, like "Windows could not connect to medialink, troubleshoot additional options." Rarely, I have been able to get internet with the desktops through the medialink, but it's always unbearably slow (several minutes just to load Google, for example) which is why I haven't been using it.
I also hooked up my new laptop to the Netgear router with an ethernet cable to see if it would work, and the connection was perfect. However, when I use wireless to connect to the same router, it won't connect to the internet (and shows the little yellow triangle with a (!) inside it, above the five-bar connection in the bottom-right dock.) After waiting for a while, I was able to connect wirelessly to the netgear router, but it's extremely slow even though it shows 4-5 bars and doesn't improve if I move right next to the router. On the other hand, when I move to the rooms that the desktops are in, the laptop can't get a good connection to the medialink router either.
