    I got a intelpro a/g/n wifi card

linksys dual antenna WRT54GS v7 with DD-WRT micro

Any tips on getting faster wireless by using QoS, extending range, etc?

Both computers using wifi, 1 a foot away from the router and this laptop have 60%/40% signal stregth, should be 100% Excillent :).

Also I'm going to install a server in the house soon, x2 4800 2gb ram and a 320gb hdd, anyone know of anything I should use it for to make my wifi experence better? I was thinking so far maybe a DNS cache server for my local network ^_^

    Check for interferances.

Depending on your internet connection, the signal strengh, even at 40% shouldn't affect your internet speed. I mean, ifyou are on a G connection (54mbps), at 40% you would be at ~22mbps. If you have a 5mbps connection...

If you are only at 1 foot, use a cable :)

You could be too close, try varying your distance to see if that changes your received signal strength. Also, check in the power settings to make sure that the wireless card is set to full power. Finally, check for interference, including possible sources of reflection right next to the router.

If you're using Vista's wifi manager, Vista is most likely displaying faulty info to mess w/ your head :) As long as your computer doesn't lose the connection, you should be alright.

Also, if you're going to be setting up a server, make sure that it's wired to your router (just in case you were thinking of making that wireless too)

use this proxy server for connection sharing which is optimized for wireless connections & maintain wifi connection when it goes out of covergage & resumes it when on reconnection...
