My friend got a new HP DV9000Z with Windows XP, and asked me to help with her wireless networking. I need to assign an IP address, but could not figure out HP's software with the 20 minutes I had my hands on it. Where can I change these settings?

You can set manual IP addresses via the TCP/IP properties of the wireless NIC.

That is, Open Network connections, go to the wireless NIC properties, select TCP/IP settings from the list, and click on properties. Then, in the new dialog box, there is an option to set a manual IP address.

Make sure that you are assigning an IP that you can be given. i.e. (don't assign a 193.161.1.103 if your IP is based of 192.168.1.xxx.

You can find these things out by looking at IPconfig. start>run>cmd>ipconfig/all

Thanks! One last question: what command would set the IP?

You have to go into network connections, right click on adapter, properties, TCP/IP settings, and in there it will give you various options. Using the information you learned from ipconfig/all you should be able to set ip, default gateway, DNS, etc. Is this for port forwarding (BT,etc?) J/W. :)

Here's a better guide maybe: for xp

Sorry I was typing off the top of my head, I have Vista installed right now and it's not quite the same (close though)
