Just curious, is there any way to save settings for different wireless networks? The situation is that I bounce between my girlfriends house and my parents, I often bring my laptop wherever I go but setting up the static IP every time I switch wireless networks gets a little annoying. The reason I setup static IPs is for torrents and since my parents have faster internet than my g/fs house I like to DL stuff here but I spend most of my time at my g/fs apt. Any help or insight would be awesome.

Check the routers - some have the ability to reserve an IP address based on the MAC address (usually called DHCP reservation). You log into the router, select the computer you want, and then reserve whatever IP address you want. Every time that computer connects to the router, it will be assigned the same IP address. This is much easier than manually assigning an IP address inside Windows.

Enable DHCP on the routers (if not already enabled) so all the IP settings get managed automatically.

This is how it is setup for me. All i have to do is enter the WPA key to connect

There are also utilities available that will let you change your connection parameters on the fly.

This is just one example - http://www.mobilenetswitch.com/

I'm sure there are others, as well. Might be what you want.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are not considered, thanks.

There is one setup though, WPA.

The OP wants a static IP address at one location, but not at the other, so DHCP won't work. DHCP reservations will do exactly what the OP wants.

My understanding is that the OP is tire of adjusting the network parameters when he goes from one place to the other, he is currenttly dealing with a static IP, which doesn't means is what he wants. To setup DHCP in both places is the simplest solution.

No, the OP needs a static IP address for torrent downloads.

I meant to give it a try, but ended up not needing it. According to the Tucows site, it is Shareware, but you can also purchase for about $35.
