Hi all, I'm in a big dilema at the moment. I bought a new MSI GT725 from America, I'm using it in Australia, for work. For some reason though, I cannot connect to any network. Wired network doesn't really matter, but the wireless is what i need to work. It says it is an unrecognized network, and so fails to get an IP address. The network is secured, but I have the encryption key and I'm 100% sure it is right. Any help would be appreciated

EDIT: Does this have anything to do with the laptop being made in America?

doubt it---when troubleshooting network issues, start simple.

Disable encryption temporarily and can you connect?

No sorry i cant. The network belongs to work. I only have the encryption key becuase i use a laptop. Even if i could get the wired network to work i would be happy, but when i plug the network cable in it says "unidentified network" and doesn't give me an ip address. Thank you for your help though!!!

Im using Vista 32 if that helps. when i go to the Intel ProSet wireless diagnostics, (im using windows to manage the wireless though, I can't get ProSet) every test passes except for the last test, the "ping test"

something not right there...you don't get an ip address wired ...and wireless fails at ping?

Any chance that your network requires static ip addresses? How large is the network? Many companies with small networks will go with static ips -- and super paranoid companies will use reserved addressing via mac addressing

I dunnt, there is only 2 using the wireless, me included on my older laptop which im using to post this comment, the error message I always get is "unidentified network". There are probably about 15 using the wired network.

who set up the old machine? you? An IT department?

When you check the properties for that machine, is is static or dynamic? What kind of router are you trying to connect to? Does this new laptop connect to other networks?

I set up the old machine with the same network key as the new one, so I know thats not the problem. I can't find static or dynamic anywhere for the old one, I am using ProSet to manage on the old laptop though. I haven't tried to connect to any other networks. I assume it wont work though, seeing as both wireless and wired connections don't work at the moment though.

Thanks so much for your suggestions though!

Do you think I should just ring MSI, seeing as the laptops brand new and under warranty?
