I have a new thinkpad z60t and have noticed that it's wireless thru-put is much less than my thinkpad T series. The T series has built-in the Intel B/g and the z60t includes the IBM mini-pic a/b/g.

Has anyone else experienced this or do I have a defective unit.

PS. I have already tried replacing the wireless card inside the machine with the same results and tech support thinks it might be an internal antenna issue.

    Thanks,

    Steve

How much slower is it? And make sure you have the latest drivers for your card and firmware for the router.

I have the latest drivers. I have a Linksys G router. My t41 with the intel b/g integrated get between 24- 48mps. The z60t get between 2-11mps.

mine works fine. I even get very-good connection from the router across the street :) maybe a re-install? or maybe it doesn't like the router your using?

Sounds like the firmware. I would go to the linksys site and look for firmware/downloads. Do you have the WRT54G?

I am using a linksys 54G. Why would a firmware upgrade help my z60t when my T41 get great reception?

    Thanks!

You said you had the card replaced and it still didnt work well. Then that means its something with the router and more than likely its the firmware.
I would try the drivers for your card too.

It could be other hardware issues, but the firmware could also be an issue. Since you have two different wireless cards, it's possible the IBM card is having trouble communicating with your router, while the Intel does not. A firmware update for your router might help. I'm not sure why you're so resistant, but it's not hard and worth the time to try. I'd rather do that then send in the notebook for an antenna repair that might not be needed.

Also, have you had any luck connecting to other access points? If not, then it probably is a hardware issue.

I have tried 10 different locations and had my T41 next to my z60T and the signal is many times stronger on the T41. I am not resistant to doing the firmware upgrade but the other locations I have no idea what they are using it was all public access with similar results.

I appreciate all of your suggestions!

A good chance its the Drivers or the firmware. You have replaced the card twice and no luck.
Please try the firmware and the Drivers. If one doesn't work, keep trying all different ones until you find the right one for you.

I don't agree, the antenna could have an issue or perhaps that model just has problems for some reason. Is it the one with titanium lid?

Yeah my bad, i meant to say its a good chance, there are quite a few possibilites.

its interesting you had the same problem after you got the card replaced.

I do have the titanium lid and one tech support said it could interfere with the signal but another one did not feel that would cause the low through-put
