Any idea what is doing this?

    I have Vista 32 Business.

    Did you restart?

If that doesn't fix it try uninstalling the wireless card and reinstalling it.

I've had mine do this but it normally comes back whenever I open an internet window. I think some jealous person put a curse on you since you are one of the best wireless people here (besides me of course jk).

The only way I can see them testing your internet connection for that icon is by a ping or http connection. Sometimes, you will see it take a while to show up even though you have an active internet connection.

What I would do is test that you can ping some random microsoft servers and that you can reach their website. Aside from that, give them a call.

My globe is back, and although I have suffered a couple of "Windows explorer has stopped and it is restarting", I still have the globe.

The best explanation I have been able to find is associated with the "Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI)", which is a new Windows Vista feature, I'm quoting: "it would seems that it is designed to be responsive to network conditions, so it examines the connectivity of a network in a variety of ways. One test failed, NCSI may report a error, even if the networking actually can be accessed fully"

Now, with regards the "Windows explorer has stopped and it is restarting" issue, I got ready of it installing IE8 beta. But it has come back, and I have realized that it does it when I'm trying to work with windows, like opening the network, etc. So it must be a Windows Vista thing.
