I basically have two networks at home. One for internet and one file sharing. My laptop connects wirelessly to the internet via one router but has to be plugged into my file server via Ethernet to browse the files on there. Since my file server has wireless I could connect my laptop to it wirelessly but then I wouldn’t have internet. So my question is. Does anyone know of a really unobtrusive PCMCIA wireless card that doesn't stick out a mile for my laptop so I'd have two wireless network adapters? I’m not really bothered about wireless range because its never really more than 4 metres away. I’m just really fed up of plugging and unplugging that ugly grey Ethernet cable!

    Thanks

    Cameron

Most of them stick out at least a bit for the antennae.

The only one I've ever seen that doesn't stick way out is the 3COM XJACK models, which have a retractable antenna. You might be able to run it with the antenna pushed in if the signal was strong enough. I don't know if they make them any more but if you google around you can probably find one somewhere, or on ebay.

Thanks for the reply, I just read a review of the card on CNET and it looked perfect. Unfortunetly when the Antenna is retracted it shuts off the card so it wouldn't be any use!

Looks like your right! And it was actually the review from CNET on that same article that I read it wasn't possible. Maybe its a software option?

Only one on eBay right now and its in Aus, haha, I'll stick a bid in since postage isn't that much otherwise I'll definetly be adding it to my favourite searches. Thanks

Go with an internal minicard instead.
