Well, a good friend of mine is lacking in the ethernet port department, so i thought i'd ask the people more knowledgeable here about what kind of switch he'd need. He already has the router, but he has need of at least 5 ethernet ports. So far he plans to hook up his printer and PS3 to the switch. however, knowing him and his compulsive spending habits, he'll probably end up with one or two more devices ;). Do any of you have a good recommendation for a not too expensive gigabit ethernet switch?

D-Link makes a good desktop switch. I've got a 16 port rack-style in my basement, and a 5 port desktop switch and they're both totally solid.

Well, my friend decided to go for a trendnet 5 port switch since he had a good deal on it. Knowing him he won't do any extensive testing, but i'll still let know how setting up goes and if it performs correctly for his needs.

Good choice, I had a trendnet switch that had jumbo frame support, it never failed me. I eventually replaced it with a router upgrade that had gigabit ports.
