Well first of all first post and all.
Um... Here's my dilemma. I recently purchased an HP Envy Dv6-7214nr notebook and I realized that the Ralink RT3290 WIFI card is the biggest POS I have ever had. My 5 year old Pavilion Dv5 gets better connection. Basically I would like to replace this card with something that will run 5 GHz with the three antennas. The current one I have is 2.4 GHz with only two antennas in what HP models as a gaming notebook. (I have done upgrades to make it more of a gaming laptop than what it originally was).

Basically I want something fast that will work well.

I will try to keep an eye on this as well as I can and if you need any information that would help you help me I would be happy to oblige.

    Thank much for the help.

Well, 5GHz with three antennas pretty much means an Intel 6300 (or a Bigfoot 1103 if you have too much money on you).

Mind the fact that you need a router with corresponding capabilities to see significant improvement.

I have the router. My roommate bought it for his notebook. So is the Intel 6300 a half size card that uses pci-e? Also I have to add an antenna. Can I just coil it in the free space directly beside the wifi card? Would that affect performance?

Yes and yes to two first questions- it's half size and pci-e. For the second one- you should route the antenna to the screen otherwise the performance will be affected.

I assume hp dropped the whitelist on dv6 70xx and after. However even if the whitelist is dropped, i am not sure if hp/lenovo brand card is needed, so you should check in hp sub forum.

I have the same model laptop and I went with the intel centrino dual band with bluetooth 6235. It works OK.
