This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Local only wireless but still have internet access

    I've noticed that my network icon in the taskbar is frequently displayed as "Local Only," see the pic below. I however still have full access to everything and am posting this message as it is displayed. Is this anything to be concerned about? My old laptop would not let me connect to anything in local only mode.

    Local implies that you are connected to a LAN, or Local Area Network. Wireless LANs are denoted as WLAN. The messages you are seeing are normal.
