Hi guys. I just bought a new Sony Vaio FW running 64bit Vista. I'm able to get online at work using the university wireless, but at home I use a modem plus ethernet cable and I'm getting "Unidentified Network" and "Local Access Only". I've tried *everything* to solve this, including calling Cox, Sony and a computer technician I know. Any suggestions on here?

How would you normally connect to the Internet? From Modem to Computer using an ethernet cable? I'm surprised Cox didn't get this sorted out for you...what did they tell you?

Check your IP settings. Make sure they are set to Automatically Obtain.

Also ping your modem/router to check for connectivity.

Do other computers using the ethernet work fine?

What sort of stuff have you already tried?
