Yesterday morning at 2:30am before work, the linksys router connected to the internet fine ... no problems.

When I got home from work at 3:30 pm, I couldn't get on the network.

2 Dell laptops and a compaq computer can connect to the internet through the cable modem.

The linksys router suddenly will not for no apparent reason

When I plug the linksys router into the cable modem, it does not get an IP address.

Any suggestions as to what would cause another sub-par (well ALL linksys products are garbage in my opinion) router to screw up like this?

Does your ISP require that you clone the MAC of one of your systems to the router? If so, check to see if the router's MAC was reset.

Nope. No MAC Cloning. Although I did get it to work for about 20 minutes by giving it an IP address.

All of these consumer grade lins%%% products are crap. I've owned 5-6 and they all last about a year (and I've had this one that long)

Have you contacted your ISP? Quite often they can help troubleshoot this type of problem, since they can "see" anything connected to the modem.

I've contacted the ISP multiple times yesterday. After an hour troubleshooting, they came to the conclusion that it is my router.

I will NOT be buying another links%%% product again, that's for sure. Seems like the first, second, third, fourth and fifth time I was screwed over by these piece of garbage products I would have learned.

I just flashed it with DD-WRT and all I get now is a blank screen whne I try to apply settings.

When it is trying to get an address via DHCP it just gets 192.168.100.1 ...

Get a Netgear, they are reliable and durable.

Ended up running down to Walmart and bought a WRT54GS ... I imagine I will be replacing it in December of 2009 haha. Seems they only last me a year.

I could not get this thing to pick up an address. Tried a few different linksys firmwares and DD-WRT and nada.

So far the WRT54GS seems to work well.
