I just bought the 600N and WTH??

I connected my USB 2.0 Verbatim Store N Go formatted Fat32 and it took TEN TIMES LONGER to transfer the data than a wired to the router computer sharing out the same device?!?!?! I then formatted NTFS and the speed was faster than before but still 3-4 times slower than a wired computer sharing out the same device.

I also tried it with my 300GB external USB 2.0 drive with similar results.

This is just OUTRAGIOUS. They market the Storage Link featurs as a streaming media server for upnp devices and it DOES NOT DELIVER.

I'm fairly certain this Really expensive turd is going back to B.B. today. Why spend that kind of money for a feature that is a waste Had it worked reasonably well I would have kept it but not in its current state.

On the other hand I did buy a DIR 655 with it and planned to keep the better performer. Guess what... The DIR655 wireless side quit after about 10 minutes. I turned it on, saw the default access point. Connected and ran the setup wizard. Before it could complete the wifi point was gone and the "ready" light would no longer ligh up on the front of the unit. I tried resetting to no avail. I guess I will try another to check range when compared to the linksys but I am so thoroughly dissapointed in Linksys right now that I can't imaging keeping it.

I spent a little over 2 hours configuring D-Link DGL-4500 between yesterday and today. Even called customer support for info.

Wireless routers and technology can be tricky to set up. First time for me.

The results is high speed 300Mbps with Intel 4596AGN. Going good so far. Very fast.

I have gotten TWO Dlink DIR-655 units now. The stupid config CD on both has informed me that I am not actually connected to a Dlink router and the config CD will not work on a non Dlink router.

So between the two units and the 130Mbps connections, the WiFi tanking on the first one and the idiot CD error I am dumping the Dlink as well.

I do get 270Mbps on the Linksys unit.

Lovely. I was doing more testing and used the "safely remove drive" option on the linksys admin page. Now my External drive that had all my video of my kids etc... is wipe.

    Thanks Linksys!!

my 600 n works fine , of course the limiting factor is the hard drive , there is no way it can write at 270 Mbps , which is the rate i connect at .

Im not expecting to write at 270Mbps. But I expect a reasonable approximation of the same drive connected to a PC and shared out. Not anywhere from 3 to 10 (!!!!!) times slower when the same drive is connected to the Storage Link.

Don't misunderstand. The WiFi part is fine and the thing is version 1.1 made 3 of 2008 so its about the latest it can be. The storage link is nowhere near comparable to a shared drive from a PC. That is dissapointing.

On a side note, thank god for Active @ UNDELETE. I had an older version that said it was going to take 78 hours to scan for deleted partitions so I popped another $40 for the latest version and it recovered my data in 4 hours.
