Got the 52mps Broadcom card with the Compac v4000t, and it has the Speedbooster thing with it -- I have cable at home, with one other desktop, is it worth shelling out the extra cash for the Linksys WRT54GS with Speedbooster or should I get a cheaper, just as, if not more, capable netgear router without it?

    Thanks!

Yeah, since you have it, its worth using it then.

If you are not going to transfer files, and are just going to be surfing the net wirelessly, then you could just get a normal router.

    Glad to help you.

What kind of router did you decide to go with?

I have a WRT54GS as well Version 1. Been failry rock solid. If you are interested in running some third party firmware (I use DD-WRT workes great!) which IMHO offer better stability and features make sure (try that is may be difficult) you get a version 1 - 3 as it has the most memory (8/32 mb ROM/RAM) Version 4 (4/16 ROM/RAM) can flash mini versions of third party ) and Version 5 2/8 ROM/RAM). Version 1-4 uses Linux for an OS.

NOTE: Version 5 uses VxWorks OS and is incompatable with 3rd Party Firmware.

To Determine which version see the Serial Nr :
WRT54GS (scroll down to see the WRT54GS)

I also have the WRT54GS, very good router.
I've had my share of good/bad routers and I must say this is by far the most stable one I've had.

I use it extensively (multiple users sharing mixed b/g signal) and it hasn't let me down. Been using it for 6 months now hassle-free.

Recently my father needed a new router so I bought the WRT54G...instead of the GS version. It was a good deal (after rebates) and I knew that my father would not care to install 3rd party firmware. (Since the WRT54G doesn't have enough memory to support 3rd party firmware...from what I understand).

    Anyways...
Make sure to have security enabled, because that router will explode its signal all over the place! :)
