I have a WRT54GS running in my house, but when I try to connect on my laptop by typing in the password, my laptop says it is taking longer than normal and it stops a little bit after that. the only way I got the network to work was by using the "add another computer" feature on Linksys EasyLink. that was fine but when i have friends over that wont to connect i dont want to have to use the add another computer with my usb for everybody's computer. what do i need to do to let my friends get on by just typing in my password?

Do you have DHCP turned on in the router? I'm guessing no.

    it says enable.

i really dont know anything about the router.
do you think it could be a problem with the firewall like block anonymous internet requests, filter multicast, filter internet NAT redirection, filter IDENT

    WPA.

big mistake, i just realized my laptop was asking for security key instead of password. that changes the situation a whole lot.

now how do i make the router ask for the router password instead of security key because the key is super long

wait.. i think you have mistaken WEP for WPA.

WEP has like a 16character security key

WPA is a 6+ char password you set
