I recently purchased a laptop, have dsl but i'm planning on having a wireless network at home. I have come to the point of deciding between these two wireless routers.
If anyone can give me pros and cons of them i would very much appreciate it.
This will help me make my final decision.
    Thanks

People say the Intel cards have problems with Linksys, while working with Netgear routers. You'll want to check this first, if you have an Intel wireless card.

Regarding the last post from the aforementioned thread, if you want to run Linux on the Linksys, either get a v.4 WRT54G or a WRT54GL.

I have a WRT54G, and my Dell e1705 with the Intel 3945ABG wireless card interfaces perfectly with the Linksys router. I've never had a problem with any wireless card connecting to my Linksys.

I should have been more specific: the problems were described with 2200 and 2915.

I am not saying that the Linksys routers are not good, just that some people reported less difficulties in connecting the Intel 2200/2915 cards to a Netgear router than to a Linksys one.

That's my experience also. With the Intel 3945ABG in my notebook, the Linksys WRT54G has worked very well with no noticeable slowdown throughout the house....and no disconnections so far.

I have had the linksys WLG router you mentioned, for almost 2 years now. I have never had any problems with it at all. Config is so simple. Also, I use wireless MAC address filtering, and I don't broadcast my SSID, and I use 128 bit WEP.

With these features along with the NAT firewall, its a great way to go. Especially b/c you can get it around $40-$50.

i have the 2915 and a linksys router (WRT54GX tripole config) and my dad has the 2200. We rarely have any problems. Once in a while i will drop to 24-36Mbps but i jus restart the network and it works fine. This occurance is rare. Just make sure you update the drivers

WRT54G < 5 , should be okay , as you can flash to third-party frimware and get all the 'leet' stuff...My choice is to go with linksys..i use it , and i'm lovin it

For those of you using the WRT54G and the Intel 3945 card, are you running or have you tried running WPA or WPA2? Does it work well when either of these are set. My ideal set up would be to run WPA2, disable SSID, filter MAC addresses and shut off DHCP...but trying to do so on my D-Link DI-524 results in sporadic connection drops, with the only remedy being a reboot on the router. Needless to say, I'd like to get something to replace the DLink...right now I have no security whatsoever on the router and I'm not happy about it.
