So my Aopen wireless router seemed to have died a week ago so I went ahead and switched to a new linksys one.

However, its quite unstable, disconnecting me a couple times a day. I had WEP on, then turned it off but still seemed to be unstable. What's weird is my BT can be running at 100kb+ dl speeds but I can't get on the net sometimes, it's all so annoying. 3 comps off wireless, 1 comp wired.

Just wondering if it really is the V5 problem or I did something wrong.

Have you tried getting the latest firmware off Linksys's website? It may have been released later than when the router was manufactured. That's the only thing I can think of. I have WRT54G v2 (that's like 2003! it's almost a senior citizen =) and I never have problems.

The WRT54GL (Linux based) is supposed to be more stable than the WRT54G V5 (uses some proprietary OS that lets them get away with half the flash and DRAM). Worth the extra money. But even then, there's IP Filter Settings that can be adjusted. Set Maximum Ports to 4096 and TCP and UDP Timeout to 500 or so. BT may overwhelm your stateful packet firewall otherwise. I'm using a WRT54GL with dd-wrt firmware so I'm not sure if your router has these options.

Edit: Definitely upgrade your firmware as Malia suggests.
