I have a wireless router set up in my house. Without going into details, it is plugged into a power socket in the wall that is activated by a light switch. So every time I leave the house I turn the switch off and the router is turned off. When I come home, I flip the switch on and then I log on. So far I have not noticed any problems with the computer finding the network. But I am wondering if it is bad to keep turning the router on and off every day. Anyone have any thoughts?

Also, is it better to turn my HP dv1000 notebook off every time I finish with it or is it ok to just always leave the power on?

It's fine to turn off the router. As for the machine, I'd put it into standby, only rebooting weekly if you need to.
