    Hi,

I have an Aspire 5020 notebook and a wireless network at home. Since I upgraded to Windows Vista I cannot switch on my wireless card! With XP I could use the button on the front to do this (part of Launch Manager I think)!

Anyone know what I can do to enable my wireless adaptor? All the drivers etc are installed but I cannot enable it

Check in Device Manager to see if the wireless card is detected and has drivers installed, then just press and hold the wireless button on the front of the laptop for a few seconds then let go. Then check in the wireless connection program in Vista to see if you can pick up any wireless access points.

I have exaclty the same problem, the button doesn't switch the wi-fi module on. I tried all WinXP drivers, using compatibility mode also, but it doesn't work. I think we have to wait for acer to release the new drivers for vista.

Anyway, if you have news, tell me...

    bye!

If you are talking about the Broadcom BCM4318/BCM94318 then there are drivers available built-in. However manually do a driver update, set Windows to automatically search your hard drive for drivers. If that doesn't work, connect your laptop to your router by LAN cable and use Windows Update to get new drivers.

You're not getting him. Its configured properly. The drivers are built into vista so there is no problem with that. The problem lies in the way the device is turned on. The button on the front of the laptop turns off and on the wireless. it is software controlled...so unless you can send the command to the wireless card manually, you cannot activate the card without the software.

I finally managed to enable the WiFi on my Acer 5024 in Windows Vista x64. It really seems that the only known way to enable it is using the Launch Manager's wbutton.exe

    This is what I did:
    1) Downloaded Launch Manager for Windows XP x64 from Acer's FTP ( ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3020_5020/driver/launmgr.zip)
    2) After unpacking the ZIP to a temp folder, I changed the properties (the Compatibility tab) of setup.exe to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1)" and set the Privilege Level to "Run this program as an administrator."
    3) Then I installed the Launch Manager by launching the setup.exe file. What is interesting is that wbutton.exe only gets installed when the compatibility mode / admin mode was set.
    4) When asked to reboot, I instead tweaked the contents of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager" first: For all the .exe files in that folder, I also set the compatibility mode and administrator mode (the same thing as I did for setup.exe before).
    5) Then I rebooted. When I logged in, I was presented with a series of dialogs about all those programs needing a permissions, which I gave.
    6) After this, the Launch Manager icon actually appeared in the tray, and all Launch Manager utilities including wbutton seem to work. I was able to enable the WiFi and it works.

    Hope this helps!
I guess a similar approach might work for the 32bit version of Vista - just maybe rather try Windows XP SP 2 compatibility mode instead of 2003.
