    Hi All

I have a Lenevo T61 Thinkpad at work and have been trying for days to set up the wireless at home so I can work from home, but It will not work!

The laptop picks up the net fine at my boyfriens house (wireless not encrypted) and works fine at the office, but at my house it will not pick up the IP address.

The password is correct, and both my landlord and the other lodger connect fine.

My IT team at work are useless and don't know whats causing the problem and my landlord isnt very helpful so I have no idea what to do!

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be? How can a PC and two laptops pick up the net fine, but mine won't? Work keep saying its a problem with the 'router' but this means sod all to me!

any help would be GREATLY appreciated, im going insane!

    K

This can be a number of things:

1st off, what encryption method are you using? make sure your laptops wireless card can support it.
2nd can you check ipconfig (start>run>cmd>ipconfig/all) you are most likely are picking up an ip address of 169... meaning a hardware problem or an error generated by your router/access point.
3rd try disabling encryption on your home router and see if you are able to connect this way.

    Hi applx

Thanks for getting back to me, im in work at the moment so im guessing ill need to take it home again before I can check the IP address there? What I dont understand is how there are two other laptops working fine in the house, would this not mean the router was fine?

but my laptop works fine in my boyfriends house, therefore the hardware must be fine?

    how annoying!

What OS are you using, _Vista or XP? If you're using _Vista you may have to set the network in question as a trusted network, which I believe you can do in the properties dialogue for the particular network under "network connections."

What's the DHCP - IP range set at the router? If the DHCP range is set short to only 2-3 IP's yours is not handed out one.

Also, if some-one added MAC filtering at the router your network card won't be allowed to join the network.

If you can gain access to the admin section of the router, have a look.
