I've installed Windows 7 and cannot get my laptop to connect to the Internet using 3G connection. I've installed a driver and now the laptop detects that there is 3G connection available, but when it starts connecting to it the connection just goes on and on until it says "connection timed out".

I've tried every 3G, Lan, Wlan and modem driver available on the Acer's websit for Acer 5738Z -model, no help. I'd appreciate any advice.

    Thanks in advance!

What cellular provider are you using, Verizon, ATT, etc?

In theory, you're supposed to be able to connect via the wireless icon in the notification area in the taskbar, but you may have to install the special 3G connection software that the wireless carrier provides and connect through that instead.

I live in Finland, so I'm using local service provider called "Sonera". After installing the driver the connection appears in the taskbar. But I'm unable to connect to it as it times out. There is a special software available aswell, but when I try to connect using it it just says that "there's no device or it's disconnected.

odd that the software doesn't work. Is it integrated in the notebook, or is it a dongle you plug into it?

EDIT: In finland, its probably daytime. It's 1 am here and I'm about to go to sleep, but im sure someone else will be willing to help if I'm not around. :)

It's integrated in the computer. I've tried everything I could :(

If you don't know what your 3G is try all the drivers even from other models for example Ericsson,Huawei not just Option and Qualcomm. Also each driver has a corresponding application.Install them to o_Of course maybe you have done all that already.I just thought I suggest them. :)

Problem kinda solved. I installed Windows Vista instead of 7 and found out that my 3G started working. Driver provided by Acer for Win 7 was causing problems. I reported to Acer's customer service and waiting for their response. Hopefully they'll get back to me ASAP and will upload correct driver on their website.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Let it to Windows to drive you crazy. They do that so well.As for Acer you will probably get some generic answer that in 5-6 lines they will manage to say absolutely nothing useful.

We'll see. They did not answer yet, but I'll report back as soon as I'll hear something new.
