The first time I did this, and it didn't work, I flipped out and thought it was my laptop, and because it was a display model. Now, it still could be, but I highly doubt it.

When I connect my cable modem directly into my laptop, It says connected, but nothing will work. I go to command prompt and put "ipconfig /all" It tells me my IP is 192.169.1.12, which I know it shouldn't be.

I've tried using "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" and got nothing, I tried rebooting, and got nothing.

Can anybody help me here? It dosen't matter a whole lot because the chanes of me using it are slim to none, and I plan on using wi-fi more, but I just thought I would ask.

If you need more info, I can try my hardest to get it.

if you look carefully, that ip address is probally under your wireless card. so you need to turn off your wifi, do that via button or command on your keyboard or disable wireless connections in network connections.

I would make sure that under net work properties that your wireless card is disabled if your not using it. this will conserve battery life.

Ok, I will turn off wi-fi when I go home.
Yes, thats right, I had to go to a neighbors house because I can't get anything to work at my house... My computer gives me this " 192.168.1.162" IP or something like that... And I can not get online, it also keeps giving me:
Inquiring IP - Invaild IP as well, I am going to go nutty

What is happening is your ISP is seeing your MAC address of your notebook and it is not registered with their service, So it it blocking your connection. If you want your NB registered with your ISP you will need to call them. Or Your router need the mac address of the pc used to set up the service cloned into the router. Then any pc connecting on your lan side will connect.

The 192.168.x.x is a private IP address assign by your router. If this is wireless auth is failing.

Well, Like I've said. I got it to work if I turn off my wi-fi. Which is great, but I still don't got my router working right yet, but I will have to try later on.

Mery x-mas all, please enjoy the holidays and be safe.
