My friend in Texas wants to buy a Dell laptop.
What does he need to be able to take this away from his home and be able to connect to internet?

I have a laptop but I have Lynksys on my regular PC and I don't travel as my friend does.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks

In order to be able to pick up public or private wifi networks all you need is a wireless card. These come built into most laptops now a days.

If your friend wants to be able to connect anywhere, rather than just be limited to where local wifi networks are, he will need to purchase a monthly subscription. I believe all the major cell phone companies (spint tmobile, ect) are providing this. You can also buy the wifi card needed to connect to their mobile broadband network from them (the company providing you the service).
