You have to run the WinXP NETWORK SETUP WIZARD. Go to My network connections, on the left tab there will be an option to click. Really easy to use, just follow the steps. Choose the option, THIS COMPUTER CONNECTS TO OTHER COMPUTER THROUGH INTERNET.

The network setup wizard has a tenancy to ruin settings, especially if it's not required, it's much better to do it manually. (I once had to reinstall windows after using it in that way when it was a connection to a router) First off, are you getting an IP? (Start -> Connect To -> Show All Connections -> Double Click Your Connection -> Select Support -> Click Details) Next, I suspect it's a DNS problem. Look on the page that you opened before. Do you have DNS? Also, how are you connecting to the internet?

Thank you both for your well informative responses.I have chececked for the DNS and it's showing perfectly well.We have a simple network. We have a satelite dish which is connected to a modem. We have a 5 pin switch connected directly to the modem. The laptop in question connects directly to the switch.
Hope the above information will help.
I have no problem accessing the shared documents on the LAN.I cant just access the internet on this laptop.

See if you can ping yahoo.com, and 66.94.343.13

The 1st will test DSN, the second Gateway.

I'm assuming you have a router and not just a switch. Otherwise your ISP may have you locked out based on MAC address.
