I have a linksys wireless router with vpn pass through when I connect from my desktop to a VPN using WinXP it works fine.

I have a laptop that connects wireless to my router and the internet works fine but when I launch VPN from my laptop it says connecting and just times out.

Are you connecting from you own network or from outside?

From your internal network your VPN is not necessary and it is not seeing the port forwarding. Look at the router logs and your local logs to see where it is failing at.
