Hi guys, I realize that a sound question might be somewhat out of place in terms of what is typically posted in this section of the forums but I feel my particular question somewhat fitting.

I have recently aquired an asus A8Jm (if it matters) notebook, and am using it as my primary computer. My problem is that I listen to a lot of music at home and would like it to be able to somehow connect it to a 5.1 surround sound sytstem which is typically used for desktop sound cards. The speaker system requires that three audio jacks be available for all of the speakers to work, but alas the notebook only has one. Is there any way I'll be able to network the sound so that the speakers can be used, or will I be stuck using a typical 2 speaker system? I appreciate any insight into my options, Thanks!

I don't know much about that particular laptop, but if it has an s/pdif port, that is what you would want to use for surround speakers. It sends all 6 channels (5.1) through one plug. If your current speakers don't have a digital input (and it sounds like they don't), you will need to get new speakers to enjoy surround sound.

BTW, this has absolutely nothing to do with networking so it'll prolly get moved...
