    Is it possible to change a wifi card that is 1x1 for a 2x2 card and if so would you gain double the speed?

    I have an Asus AC router and i'm interested in the new Dell Inspiron 7000 (7559) which has;
    Intel® 3165AC + BT4.0 [802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.0, Dual Band 2.4&5 GHz, 1x1]

    Yes it is possible. Intel 3165 uses two antennas (which are optional for 1x1 cards but essential for 2x2 cards), so I assume Dell placed two antennas in Inspirion 7000 as well. If they had done so you simply swap the cards and you're done.

    As for the speed - it does not exactly double it but it's close to twice the speed of a single spatial stream, so it's definitely a huge jump in throughput.

    Try calling Dell and ask if they can put an AC-8260 in the notebook before you order.

    Why buy hardware you don't want if you can order with the newest Intel AC wireless card set up and installed

    Which Asus AC router?

    Hi, thanks guys.
    Yes i could try, there is no option online for a different card.

    The service manual for the laptop mentions 2 antenna cables, a white and black, so that would read to me like it has the required antennas for an upgrade.

    I have a couple of RT-AC68U's (a main router giving ip addresses and one set to access point mode to give me coverage all over the house).

    So there will be no problem with an upgrade.
