I'm currently having problem to LAN with my roommate in order to play DotA together. My laptop's OS is Vista Home Premium while my roommate is using Windows XP. I've set up a wireless ad hoc (computer to computer) network for him to connect but he can't while other friends using Vista can. So i've tried to connect his pc to my notebook with LAN cable. This time it can connect but it shows limited connectivity only and we can't detect each other in game.

Any solution to solve this problem?

Firewalls. Also make sure he has the same WorkGroup name. A lot of people forget that one.
I have 2 XP's and 2 Vistas at home and I had to make sure they all had the same WorkGroup name and to play around with the Vista Network Settings so all PC's are viewable.

Right Click on My Computer n then properties.
If you are on Vista it will Give you all the info in that page that comes up.
    Look for Work Group:
    on XP
Right Click on My Computer then Properties.
    A Window will come up.
Then go to Computer NAme Tab.
    In There Look for Workgroup:
(If they are not the same. You need to make them.)
    XP:
Click on Change towards the bottom of that window.
    Then change to WorkGroup:
(To Whatever the two other PC's have)
Make sure to then disable Windows Firewall again.

Ok, I've tried to make both our workgroup same and already double checked that all sorts of firewalls are turned off. Alas, we're still not able to connect each other. It's still "Limited or No Connectivity". :(

If you have the wan port disconnected, you will get limited connectivity. This is normal and does not mean that the local lan is not working. On the MEII(Vista) turn off IP6 on the ports. Not needed and causes problems. Use the cmd prompt to ping computers. Once you can do that it's a matter of getting the sharing and/or ports connection for the game.

    Good luck
