Hey all - are there any known issues using WPA2 encryption in Vista? I ask because my Dell Studio 17 (with a Dell 1510 Wireless-N card) refuses to stay connected using this method. From what I've read, Dell wireless cards have more trouble than Intel-based models, but I'm wondering if this is also an OS issue? Vista detects my WPA2 network and actually connects to it, but only briefly. WPA (TKIP) works fine, and I know I'm pretty safe using that with using a long, non-dictionary password.

If you all have any experiences with WPA2 in Vista, feel free to pass them along. I figure with a brand new computer and router (Rosewill RNX-N4PS), using the most secure encryption possible shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for your help.

Have any idea what the problem might be? I know all of my hardware is capable of using WPA2, but it refuses to stay connected. I've read about similar problems others have had, but there doesn't seem to be a common denominator.

I used stock INTEL drivers, updated them twice and still no drops. FW update for your router? WIFI driver update?

Bottom line, no matter what drivers I used, it never dropped. I am a security freak too :p.

Router has the most recent firmware. I don't think I can use Intel drivers with a Dell card, correct? It has to be the OS or wireless card, because my Wii will connect to WPA2 just fine.

Correct. Either contact DELL or use a different encryption.

I believe that the _Dell 1500 wireless NIC is based on a Broadcom chipset, at least based on this other NBR thread.

Dell 15xx cards use the Broadcom 9432x chipsets.

I've had my Dell 1500 (revA00) for 2 years now and started using Vista in the Beta days.
The card has given me no issues with WPA2 (AES) as this is what my router is set to only use.
You might be having a router issue.

I had a 1397 card and was using WPA2+AES, with a Netgear WNR834B Wireless-N router.... without any issues.

But I just picked up a cheap 1510 wireless card from Dell, and it won't work properly with WPA2+AES. In fact it would not work correctly with anything other than TKA encryption. Go figure.

    I tried many different drivers: Dell's 1510 driver, HP's version of BCM4322, Microsoft's stock 4322AG driver...

It just never worked with AES encryption.
