The operating system kernel has the Bluetooth version support.

In my MSI GS60 with an N1525 I have one SSD with Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and another SSD with Windows 10 Insider Preview build 10547

Windows 8.1 reports Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 Bluetooth 4.0
Windows 10 reports Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 Bluetooth 4.1

Both drives have Killer Performance Suite 1.1.56.1590 and the newest Bluetooth drivers for each OS
