Hello all. I have a bit of a problem. I like to play Call of Duty 4 on my laptop, but whenever i play online i get pinged out. Its like my router completely resets itself or something. I play fine with awesome ping for a few minutes then BOOM, internet gone. I know to game i should be plugged directly into the router, but i tried this and the same thing happens. It doesn't only happen when i game though, i could be downloading something, or just sitting there looking at my laptop, and then all of the sudden my internet cuts out and i have to wait maybe 45 seconds to a minute to get it back. Its not so bad when im not gaming, but every time i game its almost sure to cut out. This doesnt only happen to my computer on the network however, when this happens my brothers laptop, and the home desktop's internet is cut out as well, and the desktop is connected to the router 24/7. Not sure what other information you need to get an idea of whats going on here, but if you ask.. i will answer :)

Thanks for any help/tips you can give me.

It is not a driver problem, since multiple computers, including those not connected wirelessly, also have interrupted internet. If you have a spare router, try replacing the router and test if that fixes your problem.

    cable or dsl?

Sit in a location where you can see the router and modem. When the internet connection farts out, what are the lights on your router and modem doing?

There are only three possibilities here--router, modem, or ISP issue.

If you cannot tell by the lights, bypass the router and hook directly to the modem. see if the problem repeats, if it does your modem could be losing sync. Odds are you cannot log into the modem to view the logs if you are on cable since cable companies lock you out of it.

Call the cable company and they can log into your modem remotely and see if the cable modem is losing sync. If it is, the modem could be failing, or they may need to run a new drop from the street to your home.
