Ok, I need some info, my son just gave me his Gateway MT6840 Laptop, and I have no idea if all I need to do is buy a wireless router to have the Internet on the laptop in my home, I have Internet on my desktop. Do I have to purchase any thing else?

    Thanking you in advance.

It's relatively new so it should have a wireless card installed but check that in device manager under networking devices to be sure. (one of things there will be a wired-LAN card so don't assume it's wireless just because it's there)

Anyway- if the laptop has a Wi-Fi card installed all you need is a router.

Thank you so much for your quick response! What might I look for? Will it say something about wireless internet? Hate to be a pest, just don't want to have to rush it to Computer Hospital before I every get to enjoy it.

Either post here the names of the cards you'll find in device manager under networking devices or post a screenshot with this section expanded.
We'll see what's there and proceed accordingly (which most likely be buying a router as most notebook made post-2005 were equipped with wireless)
