    Hello ALL:

Just bought a Compaq R4000 with the following..

    54g™ 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster™

I have a complete WIRED system at home with lots of switches, a router and cablemodem. It is used for several computers and 3 ReplayTV's. So, my idea is to get a wireless router (I need a WAP but think I can get a router for way less $$$), and keep my wired LAN as it is. Do any of you know which router supports this speedbooster?

Buffalo said that this card will not work well with their router and suggested perhaps Linksys. I would like to know if anyone out there already has a router that does work with this card and does show a good speed increase.

    TIA,
    Dave

WRT54GS is the model number..and i have never had a wireless router b4 this one..and the wired linksys i had b4 this was much slower...so i have 2 say i c a big improvement with this..and i wanted to have it for the future..since wireless A doesn't really seem to be doing anything at the moment :D

OK, I will look into this. I had planned on keeping my wired router, and just get a wireless and disable DHCP and use it as a WAP.

OH, DHCP just assigns your PCs their IP address from a pool instead of a fixed IP address. And a WAP is just a Wireless Access Point...however full Routers are getting less expensive than a WAP now.

Buy com has this router for $71 less a $10 rebate and I can get 10% off! May be worth it.

P.S. Are you in the City?

huh??..i don't live in nyc...and at circuit city if u check...i got like a $40 mail-in-rebate with mine so i took that instead of the regular $20 mail-in-rebate with the router that didn't have speedbooster..and i have no clue how to use a DHCP...i know what i wireless access point was...but i didn't no that WAP stood for that...lol...sry
