I had the same problem... firmware upgrades didn't work but guess what did? Here's a pic:

I did this about 8 months ago and I haven't had a dropped connection since. The router fan is resistored to run @ 7v and the wireless adapter runs off of the usb's 5v. I wanted to slap on some passive heatsinks but all I had were spare cpu fans and resistors.

    Nice mod :)

I wish i could do that to the DSL modem. I have had to get the modem replaced twice(one time i had to go without internet for a week becuase they couldnt get a guy out to "troubleshoot" the problem and they wouldnt let me come down and get a modem) due to overheating/hardware problems.

But at least my Linksys WRT54GS has been fine(with a few firmware upgrades)

haha thanks ;) You know I used to think it was my cable modem. I'd switch them out every few months or so when I'd get dropped connections.

I was just reading up on Linksys routers and I got the idea to mod my router and I haven't had any problems since. I guess I should stop renting the cable modem now and just buy one. It should save me a few bucks a month at least.
