So I just got a new computer. We used to have wireless-g cable but now my new computer has vista. The only vista compatable internet is running Wireless-N.

We have 3 computers in the house and my computer is the one with the router while my brother's and dad's have adapters for wireless.

So in all we need one new Wireless N-Router for my computer. Two wireless N adapters that connect can read from my router. I'm pretty sure the N router will still work even though my brother and dad have windows XP (or am I wrong?)

If I am wrong tell me please! Or is this right? i'm going use linksys since i'm used to it.

You do not need to replace the current router. Your new NB will run in 11g mode too. And since 11n is still draft, there are a lot of problems running in mixed mode with a non dual band/radio router. There are just a few routers that have 2 radios ( 11g 2.4ghz and 11n/1 5ghz) so there is no delays while in mixed mode and these are still buggy.

xirug you didnt' even answer my question.
@blue68 it's a desktop so basically I wont need to upgrade, all I will need is to just buy another wireless adapter for my brothers computer? and then all 3 of us will be connected?

i have no idea what you're talking about, but you need a wireless router. the computers that don't have actual wires needs wireless cards.

you need to brush up on your terminology or stop posting drunk.

I'm going to have a crack at this one, because I'm a patient and very kindly old duffer.

" So I just got a new computer. We used to have wireless-g cable but now my new computer has vista. The only vista compatable internet is running Wireless-N."

That's a helluva paragraph. A computer will connect to an A, B, G, or draft N WLAN using XP or Vista, the wireless chipset deals with the wireless mode, not the OS. So far I see no need for a new router.

" We have 3 computers in the house and my computer is the one with the router while my brother's and dad's have adapters for wireless."

A router is a stand-alone item, not a peripheral. I take it that your PC is connected to it via cable, and the others wirelessly? I still see no need for a new router.

" So in all we need one new Wireless N-Router for my computer. Two wireless N adapters that connect can read from my router. I'm pretty sure the N router will still work even though my brother and dad have windows XP (or am I wrong?)

If I am wrong tell me please! Or is this right? i'm going use linksys since i'm used to it.
    "

As I understand the situation you do not need a new router. You should just be able to plug the network cable into the new PC, and your brother and dad can carry on as they are. Tell me what I am missing!

Blitz, please repost your original post... Most of us can't understand what you are trying to say. Go slow and take it one step at a time and tell us your configuration and what you are thinking about doing.

There's your answer! You already have wireless G in your house, so you do not need anything else. Even with the new laptop that has Vista, you can just connect to the old wireless-g setup you have and be done with it. You don't need a new router, you don't need anything else.
