    Is this a router problem?

To start off, I have Verizon ISP with a Westell Model 6100G modem connected to a Netgear WGR614 v6 router. The Westell modem is in bridged mode.

The problem I am having is that almost every few days, the internet would stop working and I have to turn off then turn back on both the modem and the router for the internet to work again.

When it stops working, the wireless icon (in Windows 7) has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. If I disconnect from the connection and try to reconnect, I can't. I have to turn both of them off and then turn them on again for me to able to use the internet again.

    What could be the problem?

No. I had this issue once, and it was a modem issue. The modem was failing. A lot of routers actually require the router to be restarted when a new ethernet source is connected. It could be something different, I suppose. How long has this been happening? If it has been happening since you got Verizon, it could be some random thing that requires the connection to be reset every few days...

This starting happening a while back, around August of last year but it wasn't as frequent as it is now. The modem is really old too. It belonged to one of my family members who had it since 2007 (about that time, not sure about the exact date) and I added the router in late December of 2009.

It could be failing if it was doing this more and more frequently, or... not... It has lasted a while. Mine did too, but eventually restarting it would not fix the connection.

Run the modem direct connected to 1 pc to see if it happens.

Take a look at the dsl led, is it turning amber or red indicating you have a signal problem?

Agree. This is the best way to diagnose the problem. Remove the router entirely. Make sure you reboot both the modem and your pc once you connect them. Some modems need to be rebooted to recognize a newly connected device.

+1 for beating me to it.

Nope, the lights are green when it happens.

I'm a little busy at the moment so I'll try it later, I'll let you know how it goes.
