allow you to access the internet without it connected to a base station? Right now the router is connected to my desktop and I access it wirelessly through my lappie. Is it possible to remove the desktop, install the router on this computer but still access the internet without a physical connection between router and laptop?

I tried doing that several times, had no luck. I always had to gonnect it to the base then it'll give connection to the router. I called Time Warner cable and asked them they said nope. When I had verizon, they said the same thing :( .

Yes no router needs to be tied to a desktop computer. I dont understand why there would be an issue like Hualsay said. There is nothing in the design of a router that says it has to be directly connected to a desktop in order for a wireless computer to work...that makes no sense.

You only need the connection on initial setup--I guess I don't understand the question...

No i think you do get it...its just that they both have the wrong idea on how a router works.
