My school's and my home routers are all G. Will getting the Intel N card allow for me to get a stronger signal on these APs or is it just $20 unnecessarily spent?
-
it will future proof your laptop w/ an N card for when the final N draft is approved in 2009.......
-
I would say yes, it is unecessary to buy N at this time, why would you spend and extra $20 if you won't be able to get the speeds inherent to N. Regarding the future, by the time everybody including the school will be on N, then the N cards will be cheaper.
Another thought, N speeds is way faster than your internet connection, so even if you have N it doesn't means that you will have that speed to connect with the www cloud.
What is your current internet connection at home and school? -
We have 7mbps internet at home, I'll like have something similar when I move for school. The school won't have anything better than G routers (there are 1,200 students there total)...
Edit: I guess the issue is I placed the order yesterday with an intel N card. Is it worthwhile to call and change it today to an Intel G card? Will the order get delayed? Its important to me for the order to not get delayed since my work is partially subsidizing the purchase and I need to have my credit card charged before a certain date. -
I have no idea about the delivery process, you better talk directly to the vendor. But 7Mbps Internet connection is not worth it an N card.
-
The question you need to be asking yourself is if you will miss the $20 if you don't get the value that N might offer you.
Internet connection speed analysis aside, it is up to YOU and YOUR budget. -
Internet connection, data throughput within the network, are critical parameters, you cannot put them aside.

I think what you want to ask yourself, is if you want to spend $20 now and have it installed by Dell, or wait till later and install an N card yourself- no matter what anyone says, IMO, the N card is the future and after the final N comes out early 1St Qt 2009, everything is going to be geared towards it......
Is the Intel 4965 worthwhile with a G router?
