    Is my MAC Address supposed to change?

    I created a new wireless network today and joined it, but my MAC Address changed, is this normal?

    your MAC should not change. You can get it changed at the operating system level, however you can not get it changed at the hardware layer. where are you viewing that your mac is changed? on the router I am guessing? maybe a stupid question but you did not come from a wired connection to a wireless connection?

    no i went from a wireless to a wireless connection and yes I am viewing it from the new router settings page, when I joined my previous network again, my MAC address changed back to the old one

    that is a bit odd. what type of router and what OS and hardware are you running by chance?

    the router I was using was a Netgear Wgr614v6 802.11g and my new router is a AirPort Express 802.11n i bought today but did not connect to a modem yet , I'm using a MacBook Air so Mac OS

    ok well I just checked again and it seems like the MAC address is the same as my old one now, so I might looked at the wrong MAC Address but I'm pretty sure it was a different one when I added my laptop to the MAC list of allowed devices because it was the only one very strange, oh well problem solved thanks

    that is strange. Really it wont make a difference if it happens every once in a while either. if it happened every couple of minutes then your going to be getting a lot of ARP traffic generated and flat out no connectivity
