I have Cox internet. They told me that upgrades were done on the network and said if I upgraded to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem I would have faster speeds.

    Is it worth the cost?

Has anyone with Cox internet upgraded from a 2.0 to 3.0 modem and noticed a big difference?

What percentage increase in speed can I expect?

What's the speed you pay for and what do you actually get?

Speetest.net says I am getting around 30 mbps which is surprising. It does not seem that way.

Cox says I am supposed to get 15 mbps and if I upgrade my modem to a 3.0 I will get 25 mbps.

Does that mean if I upgrade my modem I will get 45-50 mbps?

I am on the Preferred package.

First of all your ISP may use a temporary boost - it's a great way of cheating in speed tests. Try downloading a bigger file from an ftp and see what speed it really sticks to most of the time.

Secondly DOCIS 2 is perfectly capable of speeds over 40mbps down and 30mbps up so you could easily get 25mbps on your current modem. I'd inquire about it - maybe they offer 25mbps on DOCIS 3 for some specific reason but it's not because DOCIS 2 is the limiting factor.

I found this site to download a 512 MB file.

It is taking an hour to download it so I know that is not accurate either. Are there similar websites?
