Hi, right now, I got a router with cable that links 3 computer with internet - Local area connection.
Is it possible for me to buy a wireless router for my laptop so that I can have my laptop anywhere I want in the house and have internet to the other computers?
So 2 computers with cables
And 1 laptop with wireless
Is it possible?

it's possible, but most wifi routers have built in ethernet ports as well as the wifi antenna.

Yeah you can just go out and get a basic G router that has a 4 port switch for 4 wired computers and then you can have wireless. Netgear and Linksys are good brands.

What you would want to do is set the range of IP's on the main router to something like 192.168.1.100-150, then have the main router as 192.168.1.1, and the wireless router 192.168.1.2. You would also need to turn off the DHCP on the wireless router so it ends up being a plain Access point.
You will end up needing to plug and unplug the things a few times to get the settings right, so it isn't exactly plug and play. If you would like, once you get the wireless router I could walk you through the setup over the phone or by instant messenger so you get the thing going quick. Email me at [email protected] if you want to do this.
EDIT: lol, Canada. Maybe AIM or Yahoo messenger would be the best option -
What dietcokefiend said is right, but I agree with the other guys in the sense that unless you need a lot of wired ports, it's best to ditch the old router and just get a new wireless one with 4 wired ports.

I use a wired and a wireless. I bought an SMC Barricade at Valu Village for $2.99. I use it because it has a Parallel printer port on it. It also can connect to a modem for dial-up as a backup. As an added benefit, it means I'm behind two hardware firewalls.

Other reasons (like me) I have a router that is capable of a VPN tunnel - and a wireless haning off it. Was cheaper to buy two routers than to buy one that would do both
Is it possible to have a normal router and a wireless router?
