I'm not even sure this is possible, but if it is could someone please tell me how to do it. My apartment building currently has free wifi for all its residents. This means that anyone in the building can connect to the internet through this AP. I currently have two computers connected, my desktop and my laptop. I'd like to be able to share files between these two computers, but I would like to do it in such a way that neither computer is visible to anyone else connected to the AP. Is this possible? I know I can password protect everything, but I'd prefer if they couldn't see my computers in the first place. Is this possible?

As soon as you start file sharing, the shared folder will show up to all users on the network. You can setup security that would require a Id and PW. But risky, as with a cross over cable between PC via the nic port, if file sharing is on. Better off to just use a sub memory stick or usb hd. That way you will not need to turn on file sharing.

You can setup your folder so that only your two computers have full permission and everyone has nothing. The folder will still be visible to everyone, but its contents wont

Share the folder with names ending with a $, like \\Athlon\Share$. That way the shared folders are hidden unless you know the name of the folder. Also, be sure to properly setup the share permissions so only your username and password have access to the folder through the share.
