I currently have a Linksys WRT54G and I want to replace this router as it is nothing but problems - drifting connections, require constant reset, etc.

I was looking at the d-link dir-655 but I hear that the dir-855 is coming out soon. Does anyone know when the dir-855 is going to be released?

Device that will connect to the wireless routers:
    -Vaio FZ190 (abgn) with bluetooth
    -desktop (b)
    -work laptop (b)
    -PS3 (b/g)
    -Wii (b)

I'm new to wirless networking so any insight (pros, cons, compatibility, performance, etc) would be greatly appreciated. What is draft n? and n2.0?

Personally I would wait till the 11n spec is finalized. The firmware is buggy with all mfg on 11n. If you can get a 11n with the latest 11n v2 spec you may have one that may work once the spec is finalized, no guarantee. So you may be just getting another set of problems. Make sure you Linksys has the latest firmware. If your WRT54G is a v5+, I know what kind of troubles you are having. If its older than that flash it with the dd-wrt firmware.

It's pretty much just wireless n, but not the finalized version.

Myself, I've had people tell me that their D-Link's caught fire (dont ask me, I have no idea how). But that's been a rare occasion. So far, I've only trusted Linksys routers and they've been working like a charm ever since. I've only had to replace my router once, due to old age.

Linksys use to be the std every one else was compared to. Not any more since Sisco bought them. There Linksys line has gone down hill and most every one else has gone up.
