I don't know if the new Dell notebook I got is bad or so but I seem to have a problem about the internet slowing down the longer the computer is on. Basically when I first reboot the system the internet speed is at normal speed but after around 30 min or maybe around an hour the internet slows down and my downloads aren't as fast as normal. When I reboot the computer then the speed goes back to normal speed when I test it but is this normal? Or is my Dell notebook defective? Like basically after few hours my internet speed is around 10 Mb download but after I reboot it goes back around 19 Mb. I have CenturyLink cable internet.

Make sure your networking drivers are up to date. Check if the same thing happens if you disable firewall and AV software (disabling one after another after the Internet had slowed down should allow you to see which one - if any- does slow it down).

Also does it happen on Wi-Fi or Ethernet (or both) - if you haven't tested the other option, please do.

Notebook being defective is pretty much out of the question - most likely a software issue.

I connect wirelessly using Wireless N type. But do you guys really guarantee that it's not the hardware and it's just software? If so maybe it needs to be recovered like new again. Or maybe the pre loaded McAfee antivirus software is slowing it down? All I know is that I had another Dell notebook and this slowing down problem never happened and it was actually a faster notebook and I got this year. Is it possible that since this isn't a Intel i3 type processor and it's a Pentium type? Also because the other one has 6 GB ram and this one has 4 GB? Both are third gen Intel type processor.

It's not hardware. McAfee on the other hand is notorious for causing performance problems so that's where I would start.

McAfee is just a piece of crap that you want to remove asap at this point, so try that first like downloads suggested.

What wireless adapter do you have by the way, I've had some wonky performance with some Intel drivers and adapters under Windows 8.
