As you all know this notebook has the worst ever driver installation errors, previously it was having an error on Inbuilt Mic, and when i return the notebook to the agents, they replaced the motherboard saying the fault was there. And now im having a driver installation issue, while been unable to connect to the web. I have Win XP Pro SP2 as the OS

Im using broadband ADSL with a Prolink Hurricane 8000 USB ADSL modem, and it was working fine earlier on and it works soo fine on my other machine as well. But When i install the sound driver for HP COMPAQ PRESARIO C736TU im getting this new error msg when try to connect to the web,

Network Connection Error" Error 623 - The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection

Earlier on this was working fine, but after they have replaced the mother board im getting this and after installing the sound drivers.

And my Wireless Internet Button is not working also :(

Anyone know's how to fix this..? and wot its all abt..?

    Thanks :(

Check your event logs (Start->My Computer->Control Panel->Administrative Tools) to see if you can identify are more detailed information about what errors are arising when you try to connect.

Also, there are two Microsoft knowledgebase articles that come up immediately when I searched the MS website using the phrase "Network Connection Error" Error 623 - The system could not find the phone book entry for this connection" - those articles are:
See if either of those don't have a solution that works for you.

Have you tried reversing the order in which the sound and NIC drivers are installed, so that you install the sound driver first, and then install the NIC driver? If the sound driver is buggy and is taking out a file that the NIC driver needs, doing the installation that way might allow the NIC driver to install everything it needs without having it get wiped out by the sound driver.

Is the sound driver a third-party driver, or are you using a sound device other than the system's onboard speakers?

    Get rid of it ;)

Now, I have a big problem with your issue description. What does (if anything) your audio system has to do with your internet connection?

Worst scenario you would would get internet with no sound, but loose internet completely? This is unreal. If you had some conflict with different video or music player drivers, then at most you would not be able to play the multimedia applications, but it should not block internet at all.

I don't have anything to suggest at this moment but I'll so some research.

OH im more than happy if someone buys this from me, but hec i dnt wanna another to go through the same pain LOLzzzzzzzz

Beats me man, it appears there' a major conflict in following drivers

    In built Sound Driver
    In built Fax modem driver
In built wireless driver which use Atheros AR5006X Wireless Network Adapter
In built ethernet driver which use Realtek RTL8139/810x Family fast ethernet NIC)

And my 3rd party Prolink Hurricane 8000 USB ADSL modem driver

Yaa thats wot im having right now, Internet is there but no sound, and when i have sound there is no internet Lolzzzzzzz :D

And i even followed the driver installation instruction here, http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service...47627+1216621303825+28353475&threadId=1204575 and then only i managed to get the sound to work but before that, installing sound was like totally impossible

I think that's your problem, you may not have enough memory for your drivers. Try to get more memory, they are cheap theses days.

You gotta be kidding me, this notebook comes with only 512 MB Ram, and i upgraded to 1 GB, and every other softwear works fine except for this problem, besides i dont think you need HUGE memory to run drivers unless its a Major sound card.

Currently i have to disable sound driver b4 i shut down the machine, other wise when im login to windows the ADSL modem goes offline, so the only solution i have found is to enable sound driver once ADSL modem goes online.

I'm not kidding, I have seen this problem before and it was fixed with more RAM.
