I have a XPS M1330 with the Intel Pro wireless card and a Netgear WPN824 router.
When I am downloading say a 500mb torrent file, the connection drops all the time. I always have to restart the router or restart my notebook. Anyone know how I can fix this? Firmware for my router is all updated and also for my wireless card.

It sounds like your receiving data faster then what your router can take in,resulting in a gridlock effect.Google bandwidth limiters? or something like that, and see if you can find a program to help you.

edit: I just found this, hope it can help.

My roommate and I are having similar problems, though I can't imagine that it's due to any sort of gridlock effect (I don't think we have a fast enough connection for that to be a problem). We'll have normal internet for about 20-30 minutes, then the connection will drop off slowly until we can't use the internet anymore (even though it says we still have internet access). After resetting the router, we'll have another 20-30 minutes before it happens again. This is a relatively recent problem (within the last 2 days) but it is extremely annoying.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I'm using a linksys router.

I know the problem isn't with my computer, because my roommate has a different make/model with a different os, and he has the same problems. But he says that he had similar problems in the past, and so replaced the router, which would mean that the problem isn't with the router either. I don't know what to think.
