Ok I'm a little behind the times so give me a break. How can I get internet access on my laptop anywhere around town?

Wireless broadband cards from a cell phone company, as long as you're within the network you can get internet, but it's not cheap. Maybe $70 per month.

yep, it's internet carried in a signal just like your cell phone. Like Lithus said, it's quite expensive but at the same time convenient. Also, you have to buy a card from whichever provider you choose and those are not cheap either. Although, sometimes you can get a good deal on them with an agreement from the provider.

If your laptop has a pc card slot or an express card slot you should be good to go. Most providers offer one or both options. You just have to ask them which. Don't know if there is another kind....maybe USB or not.

I wonder if I posted this same thing a few days ago? I'm on so many meds I forget what I'm doing at times? Hard to remember stuff.

Yes, yes you do. The HP dv6000 has an express card slot on the right. And if worse comes to worse you could always use a USB adapter.

Yeah if your in an area that gets the EV data signal on your cell phone you can plug your phone into the USB port and get pretty fast internet anywhere you get that signal. I use Alltel and it only adds $25/month to my cell phone bill. I connect at 280 kb/sec. when getting medium signal compared to my only other alternative dial up at 27 kb/sec!! Just fast enough you can watch you tube videos without stoppages. Not extrordinary but good for everything I need to do which dosen't include gaming.

Even if the antenna device is free or "just" $50, the monthly bills will bring the cost of one year of service to around $1000.

Your laptop does have an Express Card slot.. totally different from a PCMCIA slot. Makes I know Verizon has a express card wireless for their system. I don't know about Sprint. It's better to get a card than a USB adapter... less to lose when traveling and the hassle.
